The benefit points system

How to manage your SASS benefit

  • Check your statement. Page 1 of your Annual Benefit Statement details your current contribution rate and the number of benefit points you have accrued over your scheme membership.
  • Schedule your increase. If you would like to amend your contribution rate, simply complete the SASS contribution rate election form, which is included in your Annual Benefit Statement. Scheme legislation allows you to change your rate by 31 December for the change to be effective from 1 April the following year.
  • Seek advice. A StatePlus financial planner can help you determine the contribution rate that will enable you to maximise your employer-financed benefit. They can also advise you on other important matters, including your concessional contribution limit. In addition to their extensive superannuation and investment expertise, StatePlus financial planners know how SASS works and can help you optimise the retirement benefits you are entitled to.
