When a deferred member dies

In the event of a deferred member's death, the deferred lump sum benefit is payable to the member's spouse (including de facto spouse) or, if there is no eligible spouse, to the member's estate.

However, if the former member had resigned and deferred their benefit, a spouse or dependant's pension and child's pension may be payable if the Commissioner of Police determines that the former member's death was caused by the former member having been hurt on duty (HOD) while they were a member of the Police Service. For assistance in applying for the deferred benefit in the event of a member's death, please contact Customer Service on 1300 130 094.
